My name is Carole Benjamin and I am writing about my daughter, Samantha. When Samantha was born, she was a beautiful and healthy baby with no medical concerns whatsoever. But by the age of one, we knew something just wasn't right. Shortly thereafter, she was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome. She is now ten years old and is non ambulatory, is non verbal, has seizures and scoliosis. Although she is still a beautiful and happy little girl, her life is overshadowed by medications, hospital stays, therapy appointments, operations and the constant fear that her life could suddenly be taken away. We desperately need your help to find treatments and a cure.

Rett Syndrome (RS) is a neurological disorder that primarily affects young girls and women. For the first year or so, babies with RS seem perfectly normal, but then they can lose the ability to walk, talk and use their hands properly. As the girls grow older, they often develop seizures, breathing disorders, scoliosis and other difficulties. There currently is no known cure or treatment, but there is hope.

The goal of the Rett Syndrome Research Trust (www.rsrt.org) is to discover and deliver effective RS medications within the next five years. RSRT is currently supporting key projects that not only offer the possibility of curing Rett Syndrome and related disorders, but may also identify drugs that could rapidly enter clinical trials to improve the lives of suffering individuals in the near term.

On February 8, 2008, a breakthrough discovery was announced. Scientists have reversed the symptoms of RS in mice, suggesting that this could one day also be done for girls suffering from Rett Syndrome . However, we need to continue this research to find a cure. Every game you donate or purchase through www.DonateGames.org helps us get one step closer to making that cure a reality.

There is still so much hope for my daughter, Samantha. With the rapid progression of science and technology, I am encouraged that there WILL be a cure within her lifetime. By supporting DonateGames, you can help increase the chances that some day she and others like her will again walk and talk and have a pain-free life.

Thank you.
